Around 4pm today Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp experienced issues causing their ecosystem to have a major outage globally. This has also stopped ad activity across Facebook Business Manager. We will update this article when we get more information.
We apologise for the inconvenience.
Hi and happy Monday 😵💫— Instagram (@instagram) October 4, 2021
“Online network experts speculated it may involve an error with DNS, or the domain name system, for Facebook sites.
DNS is often compared to an address book or phone book for the internet, pointing web browsers to the computer system which serves the website they are looking for.
Previous issues with DNS led to widespread outages of several major sites earlier this year.
In one of those instances, it emerged that the blackout was caused by a single customer of a widely-used service who changed their settings, triggering a software bug affecting a huge number of websites.”
Reports that some users have access to their Facebook, Instagram and Ads Manager.
Facebook Ads Manager and Business Manager are now back online. We can confirm from initial observations that no ads were live during the outage. Spend stopped during this period. We expect that there will be a period of stabilisation before ad accounts and Facebook’s family of apps are running as normal.
If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to get in touch with your account manager.
